Dear Daisy June –
What a struggle! What a struggle!! - - but I finally made it. By the time I got here I looked like Aubrey Shake.
I did not find the Navy letter here when I returned, so it may be sent to you at that. In case it comes, shoot it along according to plan. It feels kind of funny to be a “garbles gob”. I am going to draw out the balance of my bank account today, leave only a couple bucks, and I’ll run on this as long as possible – by the end of which time you of Ginnie will receive humble request for as many shekels as I think I’ll be needing.
Everything here is jake – except that Junior is going and I’ll have the office all to myself all morning every morning until summer school is over, which is tomorrow, come to think of it.
Junior says that it is a must on your list to go see “For Whom the Bull Toils” when it comes around in 1945, she saw it whilst I was gone. Like to see it myself, but on the new economy program I guess I’d better wait.
Haven’t a thing to say, Mammy, just started out to you a card saying that I got here – didn’t have a card so I started this.
So long for now,
