Dear Mom –
The ward is still right now so I’ll dash off a letter while I have the chance – Earlier tonight I wrapped a package which I’m sending you inside I have a little package I have wrapped to be remailed to Edna – Will you attend to it for me – Send it first class mail – It’s perfume and I think there would be less chance of breakage – The other stuff is just a collection of various little souvenirs I’ve picked up from time to time – The little letter openers are rather nice I think –
We saw a movie the other day – “See Here Pvt Hargrove” – It was very good – I had read the book some time ago – We’re to have another movie tomorrow - It’s the first we’ve seen since way back near the beach – It’s a nice change –
The mail will come in tomorrow I guess as they went after it today – I hope it brings me a bunch of letters and that clipping from the Richmond News Leader – that brings a lot of news –
I read in
the Stars and Stripes that there was quite a hurricane in the states and that
it went thru
Night duty
is long and at times tiresome – I’ve had several interruptions since I began
this letter and have just returned from the mess hall where we had our midnight
meal – steak and it was really good – We’re getting excellent rations now – the
best food we’ve had since the states – including our time in
Write often – I watch for those letters – Say hello to all the folks for me –
Love,
Jack
