Dear Mrs. King

No doubt you will think it rather odd for me to be writing you. But the reason for this letter is to inquire as to your son Jack’s whereabouts.

He and I became acquainted while he was stationed here at Camp Ellis, and after he was transferred to North and then to South Carolina we carried on a regular correspondence. We continued to write regularly after he went overseas up to Christmas of last year. Since then I haven’t heard from him, so it is natural for me to wonder how and where he is.

He gave me his home address, and told me, that I might find out anytime as to his safety in case there ever was a time that I didn’t hear from him. He was a perfectly charming and intelligent person to know. I always enjoyed his company. He spoke many times of his family and Brothers who were also in the Service. Please don’t think I’m being inquisitive or unreasonable Mrs. King. I’m just anxious to learn how Jack is and his present address if you have it. So if you don’t mind, I would enjoy hearing from you whenever it is convenient for you to write- Many thanks-

Sincerely

Miss Kay McLead
