Hello Louise,
We are in the same shoes, away from
home and homesick. I guess we realize what a letter means when we are away.
When I was at home I didn’t realize how a letter helped you when you are
lonely.
I will have
a picture made and send it to you. I am going to town tomorrow night, to have
some made. I would like to have one of you if you can’t get a large one made
send a small one, I don’t care just so its you. Yes I
come home that weekend. I can go home every other weekend if I want to, but it’s
so hard to have I don’t think I will go anymore till I get my furlough.

Louise that medal I was to send you. I left it in my pants
pocket and sent them to the laundry and when it came back, well it didn’t. You
are so messed up here you don’t know what to do. I just have fun shooting the
M1 Carbine I made expert with it and rifle too. Maybe I can take care of
myself. Over the other side. We will be over there by
February so they say.

Say Louise I can come up there on a weekend pass to see you.
There is another boy here says his girl friend is at mars hill college and
wants to come up there.
I am listening
to these poor boys here. They are so lonesome all of us are just alike. I hate
to stay here on weekends to listen to them.
Boy if I could
eat mother’s cooking I would be satisfied. This G.I chow is terrible. I guess I
could eat your cooking after this war is over. His answers tell me how you get
along up there.
Love Ike
p.s. Your address is as long as mine now.
