Dear Jack,

Gosh, I’m so happy! I received two letters from you today, they were wonderful.

Jack, I’m so glad you feel the way I do. I didn’t think it would be possible. I was wishing I could’ve told you how I felt to your face. Jack your trust is safe with me now so don’t worry about anything. There is one thing I want you to know, do you love me enough to give up drinking? That is the $64 question in my mind at present. I hope so Jack I don’t want your life ruined, it has only begun!! If only for me, give it up, please. You can’t imagine how I felt when I heard you started drinking. I blamed myself and that made matters worse. “I promise” I won’t mention anything more about drinking. Surprise me!!

You asked me if I could honestly wait two years for you. Are you kidding??? I could wait the rest of my life for you. How do you stand??? Tops honey right on the top!! How does it feel?

About me going steady?? Since when?? I have been going out with Kerby Ferguson, Johnny Benton (once), Joe Collins and a couple others of unimportance. Who told you, or isn’t it any of my business? I did go out with Joe quite a few times but I only like him as a friend, maybe that’s who they meant.

Are you sure you will have to stay overseas for at least two years? You told me 30 months not long ago.

Jack there is one thing I want you to do. Always tell me the truth and I’ll always do the same. O.K.?? I want to know everything about China, you, your friends and everything you do. What work will you do when you’re an M.P.??

Oh yes I received a letter from Billy Ward not long ago. He’s a swell kid! I’m gonna answer it tomorrow. He says he writes to you so I won’t tell you anything about him as you probably know already.

I have so much more to tell you but it’s 11:30 p.m. and time for me to retire. Have to have my beauty sleep. Gosh I’m so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open and some blasted news reporter is driving me a little queer. I’ll write tomorrow night. All right honey?
