France
9 Oct 1944
Dear Mom,
Got your letter today, so thought I would drop you a few lines.
They finally got us to France. This is quite a country over here. Aside from being quite blown up, it is better than England. There is more room here. Things are not so crowded as they were in England. The temperature is more even than England. There is all kinds of stuff growing around here. Potatoes, apples, plums, tomatoes. If I had the cider press here I could make something better to drink than this cognac and wine.
Got my election ballot today. Was afraid I was never going to get it.
Boy! We have an awful time trying to get the Frenchmen to understand us and vice versa. Have to me smoothly virgin language. Seems I have run out of room, so will close, Love, John.
