Germany

My Dearest Darling Sweetest Dolly,

I didn’t get a letter today honey, but after those three letters yesterday I shouldn’t be complaining. I did get the box of candy you sent March 12, with all the letters, and the moving notes. They are interesting to read. The candy was delicious Dally; I should say that we haven’t eaten in all already. You’re a sweet little old darling. I wish I could just squeeze you real tight, and then I might sneak a little kiss. I’ll love always.  The candy came in the night day. We had e rations and beans for chow tonight, and then they gave us a k rations. Also, it pounds a lot, but if yawl ever ate any of them, yawl would know what I mean.

We are allowed to go for walks around here, now if this army isn’t more like a penitentiary. It’s as close as I can to get to that kind of a life. Dolly, you will never know how glad I will be when I am a civilian again. I’ll be with you all the time. I’ll be like that girl down at the office giggling all the time

Schwartz came up to me tonight and asked me if I knew any girl by the name of Erlyle that worked for the Red Cross. So I knew that my pictures came. I told him I would let him read the letter after I was finished. So he and Willie went out washing their clothes and they both yelled at me that they wanted the letter. So I took it over, and they looked at the pictures. Schwartz said he was going to take a picture of me and the truck. So don’t be expecting that for a long time. I would like to have one with my new haircut. It’s a real G.I. The last one haircut had been at St. Mere Eglese and it just grew out as long as in the picture.

Kennedy has been working on a gun for the last few days. I told him when he got put back together, I would stand five yards away from him and let him fire at me Dudick said he would stand beside me. He just put it back together, and he started waving it around. Dude told him he would throw a brick at him. Dude really has a temper, worse than I ever thought of having.

That was some letter of Martha. I almost believe she is boy crazy. She changes in every letter doesn’t she? I think she changed since I knew her. I’ll be glad when she settles down. If she goes to England she would probably marry a limey.

I will come to the end again and I wish I could see you for just one little second. Thanks a million times for the candy honey. I’ll give you a kiss for each grain of sugar that was used. I know they will be a lot sweeter. I’ll love you always.

            Your Ever Loving
