No. 170
Dear Billy:
I received your
letter of April 19th this morning. The service certainly is
excellent right now and judging from your letter, the mail going from here over
to you is just about as good. I wish the delivery of packages was a little
better. When you were in England some of your packages reached you in as short
a time as three weeks and it never took more than a month.
My package of
March 14th should be reaching you soon, if you haven’t received it
by this time. My next package was mailed on April 6th and then the
sneakers were mailed on April 20th. I’m glad you have received one
of the packages of tennis balls from Heltie. There is
also another package of six on the way. He sent you a dozen altogether. I hope
they hurry with the package containing the sneakers. Then you’ll be all set.
Mary got me a
pound of butter today so you shall be having some “Cookies by Squeek” before very long. I shall make them over the
week-end and shall send them to you next week. I want to get some candy and
other stuff to put in the package so it will probably be the end of next week
before its ready. I shall let you know as soon as I have sent it so you can be
on the look-out for it.
I saw a play
called “Dear Ruth” last night. It was very good and we just about laughed
ourselves sick.
Head was over
for supper on Sunday night. A I think I told you some months ago, he sold his
place and is now living with one of his aunts. His father went down to Texas to
get with Millie. Head doesn’t like living with his aunt and consequently stays
home as little as possible. He comes over to our house quite frequently on
Sunday afternoons and then stays for supper.
Heltie thought maybe Head
wouldn’t want to sell his car for a couple of hundred dollars, so when he was
over on Sunday we told him about Heltie’s car burning
and said we hoped he would be able to get another one somehow, etc., etc., but
Head didn’t say anything at all, so I guess that’s out. As a matter of fact, I
managed to get back to the subject of Heltie’s car
several times during the course of the evening, and gave him several openings
to say something if he were so inclined, but he didn’t say a word. Heltie is getting, should I say, hopes to get, a Furlough
the latter part of May. Maybe he will be able to do a little shopping around
then and find something. Bye for now, Honey Lamb. Let me know if you want
anything.
Squeels
P.S. Ask me for another fruit cake.
