Dear Joe,

Just a few lines to let you know that I received your letter.  I’m really sorry I couldn’t meet you that Sunday.  I went to see my cousin Saturday night in Brooklyn and as I was coming down the stairs I tripped and sprained my ankle.  Of course my cousin wouldn’t let me walk home like that so I stayed at her house for a few days.  After that I caught a bad cold.  I came home Monday and I received your letter then.

I felt very bad that you wrote me such a short letter. When you didn’t show up that day I understood that maybe something showed up when you were supposed to meet me (remember?) and you couldn’t come.  I was also disappointed but I didn’t get sore about it.  From the looks of your letter it seems as if you’re sore.

I am sorry if I hurt your feelings but I think you should have a slight bit of consideration for me.

Well so long Joe.  Give my regards to Clyde for me.

                                                                        Patsy

P.S. I’d like you to write in response to this letter.
