Australia

June 11, 1942

Dear Mom, Dad & Marie,

How are you all at home? I have not heard from you for 3 weeks but your last letter said that all were well and everything was fine back there.

In your future letters you need not be afraid to mention Australia. In your letters and in Margaret’s, I noticed that you both took care not to mention this country’s name.

Things have been going very nicely with us here. And the weather has been extra nice since this is winter-time here now but it looks more like spring in Virginia.

We have been listening to programs from the “States” from time to time and in this way keep up with what is going on back there.

A Colliers magazine turned up here today. It was a little old (April 18th) but we were glad to see it just the same.

I see by the date that tomorrow will be Frank’s birthday. I haven’t written him since I have been out here but I will try to do so today or tomorrow.

My postcard collection is improving all the time but I guess I will have to bring them back because we are not permitted to send them at the present time.

I hope you will soon receive the bookends I sent. They are of mulaga wood, which is native wood here.

Next Sunday I hope to be off as so I can take a trip to a place close by where there are Koala bears which are exactly like little teddy bears that kids have back in the States. If I can borrow a camera to take along I am going to try and get a few pictures to send home.

Lately I have been able to go to Mass every Sunday and I was at Communion Sunday before last. Next Sunday is Holy Nance Sunday and I am going to try and go then.

Now I must close for this time and will write sometime next week.

                                                            With love to all,

                                                            Aubrey
