Dear Mom, Dad, & Marie

This is my first letter of 1943 and what I can say in it I don’t know at this time, but I guess I will think of something as I go along. At least I will have plenty of time to write this, as I am on duty until midnight and it is only around 7pm now.

The last letter I received from you was written on Dec. 11 and it reached me in a very short time. Also the package with the razor blades came and for them, thanks a million.

I think I mentioned in the letter which I wrote you at Christmas that I received the clippings. They were very good. I enjoyed them all.

Johnnie Meredith wrote me, in a letter which I received a short time back, that he and his wife were also expecting in their home in January. I wrote and told him that I bet it would be the 22nd. Wouldn’t it be funny if Mary & Lucille’s stork had a race about that time.

It would be a splendid opportunity for Marie if she could go to work in the Gen’l Manager’s office and I hope that she will have that chance.

I wish Frank would drop me a line now and then. He writes good letters and they always have much news. Talk to him and see what can be done.

This morning, being New Years Day, I went to Mass and Holy Communion. The services were held close to our camp and Mass was said by Chaplain Reynolds who is an Australian priest and who holds the rank of Major now. Many of the men, both Australian and American went to Communion. It is good to see them attend so regularly.

Just a few days ago I received a grand letter from Mrs. Koenig. It was full of news of Vincent and Fredericksburg. Vincent is in the Army now and is drum major of the army back in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mrs. Koenig also told me that my name is on the Honor Roll in the St. Marys church in Fred. That was swell of the Koenigs to remember me like that, don’t you think? I miss them almost as much as I miss you, because after all they were like mother & father to me when I was in the “big city.”

Well I guess that is all for this time. Now I will have to start thinking up something to write in my next one to you. In the meanwhile I will be thinking of you all and hope you will be doing the same for us.

                                                            My love to all,

                                                            Aubrey
