March 30, 1943

Dear Mother:

I knew darn well you read that letter I have laying on the table.  Personally, I wouldn’t read anyone class mail if it was opened or not.  They say curiosity killed a cat.  And as for Audrey, to me she’s no more than any other girl.  We just had a good time while she was around.  And this is 1943 not 1890 and a locket is considered the same as a compact or any thing else.  In other words it is a remembrance.  And I haven’t seen a girl yet that wasn’t a gold digger.  They’re all the same and only worth a good time until something new comes along.  And I know every angle they’ve got, if anyone’s to be taken in, I’m afraid it will be them.  I’ve forgotten more than some people will ever know.  I had a side seat on the C& E I and got a good seat at Viela Grove.

I sent the camera box home today & also sent a Rabbit doll to Merry Lane.  I haven’t written to them about it so you can tell them cause I haven’t anything to write to them at the present time.

Herb got home Sunday at midnight.

I’m not going to answer any of the mail until I get a permanent station.

                        So until then

                                    Your son,

                                    Melvin
