Dear Sonny:
We
are all well at home, although Dad, Marie and myself all had rather bad head
[colds] last week. We hope and pray you are well and doing alright.
In my last
letter I told you, the last letter I received from you was dated Jan. 6, and it
is still the last letter I received from you. I hope there isn’t anything the
matter with you Sonny, are you receiving our letters? And any of the boxes we
sent you? I hope you have by this time.
Last
Saturday I heard over the radio and it was in the papers too, that a million
pkgs. and mail too had been lost, when the Germans broke through. That was
about the middle of Dec. and two or three weeks after.
We
are all wondering whether or not you are getting your mail and pkgs. I also
sent your pen. I sure hope that didn’t get lost.
Chickie
had her baby Christened yesterday, (Sun. [Feb] 4) of course there was no party,
with Dominic overseas. They just had a dinner Uncle Sam was invited. The baby’s
name is Richard Dominic. Real cute isn’t it? I haven’t seen the baby yet.
The
month of Jan. has been the coldest we had for a long time, and I’ll say it was
cold. So I have not been going out, only to church and the stores. I think I
told you [Chickie’s] people moved to Bywood, and she is living with them. That
is quite a distance to go in cold weather.
George
stopped in to see us on New Year’s Day, cousin Marie and Ray were here when he
came, and we have not seen him since. He told us then he was in 1-A and had
passed the physical. I don’t think he would leave without coming to see us.
Sonny
I mailed another pkg. to you on Jan. 31. In it [are] 7 packs of cigarettes, a
comb, two packs razor blades, 2 rolls film (616), 1 lb. box candy! Dentyne
chewing gum, a cigarette lighter, writing paper and envelopes, 2 flashlight
batteries and 2 bulbs.
We
could not get any more Dentyne when we sent the pkg., but we have four pieces
now and two more flash light batteries.
You
know Sonny we can’t send a pkg. without a request so write and ask for
something you want in all your letters. Cigarettes are rather hard to get too,
and we have to take whatever brand they have. That accounts for sending you the
different brands. I hope you like them, and I hope you are getting them.
I
also hope that I will be getting a letter from you real soon. That’s all for
now Sonny, loads of love and best wishes from Dad, Marie, and myself and give
the boys our best wishes also, God bless you all and take care of you all.
Your
loving Mother.
