APO 901
Somewhere on Okinawa
August 22
Dear Father
The Japs apparently don’t want to rush into this peace business too fast. From here reports vary as to the reception American troops will get when they get ashore. First I have been near to witness the death of the Japanese War machine now perhaps will come the birth of a Japanese Republic. In view of the fact that a man only lives a few years in comparison to history.
Philips Browns house has a custom of about every two weeks of sending out a copy of the wartime Crimson. Some of the news is a bit on the cold potato side but it gives an idea. When last time I wrote to them I asked if there were any Crimson new at either of my past APO’s. I know of one so far but I had known this.
The post war picture for many is complicated. Some will reenlist under the present system to keep grade after 90 days out. Of course it is hard to talk post war when you are still at war. I would like you to get a recent copy of the WW II catalogue and the Graduate School of Engineer at Harvard and send them along. I am looking at hydraulics and Sanitary as possibilities.
