My dearest Gerry:
What a day this has been. I started off to the store ready for anything and I got everything. First shot out of the box was that Eulic was the new manager in the WT Plains store. This caused quite a hub-bub I think it’s wonderful for her. We were very busy today and were very busy with complaints as the bills went out over the weekend. The two assistants and the manager had it hot and heavy just after the store closed and if he isn’t Harold Dupold out and out. I call it just plain thick. Well finally the day was over and I trugged home that long half a block to me greeted with a telegram. I thought sure you were on your way. But it was a telegram from A.A. for an interview on Thursday or Friday so I guess I’ll go over and see what it’s all about. I guess they want to pay me $150 after all. I will ask for two weeks to clear up my work so how about fixing us up before I tackle a new job or do you think I ought to stick where I am. If you think I ought to stay call me tonight (Sept. 9th) or during the day if possible on the 10th. If I take a new job I won’t be able to get any time off.
I called your mother tonight and she was feeling pretty good. They missed you Sunday very much. She has had her 11th injection and still nothing has happened.
Tonight we had an alert and when the all clear sounded Mrs. G & I went to our station to wait for wounded people to be brought in. There were Boy Scout messengers, stretcher bearers, ambulance drivers, canteen workers, and we First Aiders and it certainly had everyone on there toes. We had to be checked off and report why we had not appeared after the alert on Sunday night. They nearly had the real thing Sunday night or rather Monday morning at 2 A.M. A stray plane was sighted over NY City and what fun they had. Tonight’s black-out was held because the real thing went off so bad. I met a woman on the train coming back from NY and we got talking about soldiers and she said her boy-friend was going to be sent to Indiantown Gap MR. and when I said I had just arrived from there she seemed so relieved. She thought it was some place in Calif. I guess she thinks Indiantown Gap MR. is a reservation for Indians or is it? Did you get your letter from John yet? My curiosity is aroused or maybe I’m just plain nosey- Miss Dryden and the girls are back and they look fine and all interested in you. Claude is a [symbol for Tech. Sergeant Rank] also. He is supposed to leave for San Francisco any day, and that has been going on for over a month. I told Alice I may and up in NY yet. Well my darling I guess I’ll close for now and get a little shut eye.
Love
Eileen
P.S.
Pray that I do the right thing.
