My dearest husband:
By
the time you get this it will be your birthday. Happy Birthday, honey! I wish I
could give you a real party. Golly, I’m not even up to baking you a cake but I
will be thinking of you all day long. Next year I hope we can start out new –
the four of us. Anyhow, we three will do our best to make you happy.
It’s
Saturday night and very lonesome as usual without you. Allen is in bed, mother
is sewing, Eddy is making clocks and I am about to take a bath – somehow or
other. I just finished cutting out a new dress. Do you like it? It cost me
nearly there dollars, a savings of seven. I got Allen a pair of red overalls and
two pairs of rubber pants on his birthday. Mother bought him blue overalls. Some birthday, huh? I guess she is going to make him a
little cake. I wish you could be here too blew out his candles for him.
Your
sister today made me very lonesome for you. I’ve missed you awfully all day
today. I love you so Preston. The only thing that can make me happy is to have
you with me. I pray it won’t be much longer.
Meanwhile,
honey. I will dream of you.
All my love,
Maggie
