Dearest Marguerite,

There isn’t much happening around here lately, except the same old stuff we get every day.  I was kept pretty busy lately plus a few days that we were out on bivouac.  Thursday we are going out again, just for a day this time.

Thanks very much for the picture of Allen at 6 mon.  I think it is very good of him.  I put one of those pictures you sent me before in that frame opposite you, and it looks good, and all the boys that see it think he and you look so nice.  I wish I could get a couple of you.  There wasn’t one picture where I could see your face.

I had some news from mother today.  Blanche and Ray had a baby boy on Tuesday and he weighs 7 lbs and some ounces.  Blanche had a hard time of it.  She labored from Sunday morning until Tuesday, and it was a cesarean birth.  She is getting along fine.

How is Dot, and the rest of the family?  Tell them all I was asking about them.

I guess you must be kept pretty busy since you are home.  I hardly hear from you anymore.  I get about two letters a week from you, and then they are so short, you never say much about yourself, but I am glad for the letters I get. I always feel better those days, and builds up my morale.  I was writing to you almost every day but it didn’t seem to do much good, you never answered them, so now I’ll wait until I hear from you.  I love you Maggie.

Little Allen will be all full of bumps if he doesn’t stop falling.  I’ll bet he is getting nice.

Enclosed is an article by Ernie Pyle with an Evac. Co.  It will give you and your Dad an idea of what our job is.  The Captain says we will be doing our job in about two months.  I hope so, it’s better than staying here in this misery.

The war news sounds good today, but as you say it is Complicated.  We will all be on our way home in about a year or a year and a half.

I am tired again this evening.  I put in 4 hours up at the laundry this morning waiting for some bundles that were short in last week’s laundry.  This is the worst Q.M. laundry I ever saw, the men are always short some pieces which I have to do after.  This morning I thought I would go early, I went up about 0715, when I got there I was about 12th in line.  I hate to go there, it is so much time wasted, and time is valuable to me now, because I only have one helper anymore they took the rest away, but I still get along.  In two inspections I had so far, I got Excellent.  I wish they could have seen my supply room in Atterbury, I would have probably gotten a Presidential citation.  I am not bragging honey, just joking.

This is just about all the room I have, and I better quit until I hear from [you] again.

Love,

Preston

Keep the clipping I want to show my Dad.
