My dearest wife:
I
finally came to one of my decisions today. I talked with the Lt. about putting
money in the soldier deposit, and he said that it wasn’t a very good idea, and
the only way I could get the money out was an emergency or when I get
discharged. I guess it may have been some extra work for him. Anyway I decided
to take out one of those $10 bonds. Then they would go direct to you and if you
needed money you could cash them in or do with them what you want. Do you think
that was a good idea? I also mentioned something to him about the Bldg. and
Loan. He said it wasn’t such a bad idea. He said for you to write to the county
or district where we are going to live, to the FHA, or Bldg. and Loan, and they
would find a house for you providing it’s what you want. He said you can get
almost 7% interest that way, and be able to pay the
house off in no time. It sounded kind of good to me. Maybe you could get some
information on it.
Forgot
to tell you, we had to unload 13,000 rounds of 50 cal. Ammunition last evening
after chow. I have to order about 26,000 more rounds. This morning we had to
put them in long belts of 250 each, lookin pretty – I
guess we are going out on the range next week and shoot at a target plane. This
plane is remote controlled, and it’s almost as big as a man. It has a small
gasoline motor in it. When it is hit it has a parachute to let it down easy
because of all the equipment inside. I guess they cost a couple hundred
dollars. Each man is supposed to get 500 shots at it. I hope I get a chance.
I’ll bet it will be fun.
Going back to the modern housewife again. Did
you ever eat sandwiches my dear? Did you ever eat them when they are a day old?
I wish you would try them just once. And another thing, I changed my morning
meal. I eat bacon and eggs, sometimes hot cakes. You can’t tell me that a housewife
stays in bed until 9:00. I would like to see what kind of a home and a family
she has. It can’t possibly be done when you have children, and have a clean
house too. Maybe you are the one that will have to look for another man, one
that likes to sleep.
Don’t
get the wrong impression now honey. I love you more today than yesterday and
the day before. I get so lonesome for you, not only evenings, but all the time.
I miss the boy so. Just think he will be 8 months on Sunday. Only
4 more months until he reaches his first birthday, and you about to have a
baby. Maybe sooner. I wish I knew when to
expect her. You know three or four months will be rolling around before you
know it.
We
must be getting ready for a boat ride. Today for dinner we had fried chicken
(which was good for a change) good chocolate cake, peas and carrots, mashed
potatoes and gravy. Tonight for supper we had steak, mashed potatoes, gravy ice
cream, slaw and spinach and doughnuts that were very good. You say you are
losing weight, you should be here. I guess I gained all the weight I lost since
I came back. I have a bigger appetite.
I
moved in another barrack tonight. We don’t go far, but we sure move.
Had
my hair cut again tonight, nice and short again. We finally had a telephone put
in. In case you want to call the number is 7509.
Take
a big kiss for yourself and give Allen one for me.
My
darling, tell me some things – how much you love me etc. I wish I could put in
words the way I feel about you this very minute. Maybe you know. You probably
have the same feeling at times.
Goodnite my
sweetie. Pleasant dreams.
All
of my love is for you Maggie
Pres.
P.S. Did you go anyplace last Sunday? Can you get
any film for my camera? If you can send my camera and some
film.
P.S.S.
I love you, yes I do, missee.
