My dearest, Maggie:

Well honey I feel a little better today. Our data is on again as far as I know. We had a bitch session tonight and had a few things straightened out. The passes that are called a weekend, but they are really 3 days or more! We can have on a Thursday night and be back on a Monday morning. If I get it alright when the time comes I’ll try to call you up or something. It should be around the 27, 28 and 29th of Oct. is that O.K. with you?

It is awfully hot down here Maggie. At the present I am sweating like a horse, and it was hot all day. That’s not all kitten. I love you dearest wife.

Today I had another busy day. I myself loaded two trailers about 5,000 pounds or more, 2 tons. I was really puffing a little when it was all over. I wasn’t exactly tired but my finger tips hurt from the small boxes. They were boxes of ammunition, 50 Cal and each box weighed 110 pounds. I had quite a few.

I didn’t understand quite what you meant about that present. What did you mean about a guilty conscious?

Did you get over your headache? I guess you probably have a hard time trying to get rest with so many kids running around. You only have seven more years and then you won’t be bothered with them anymore. It will be nice then. I’ll just about be coming home from the army.

I’m waiting for that box honey. I hope it comes soon because I am getting awfully hungry for something from home. You are very sweet to do this for me.

Thanks again for the pictures. Now how about some of you! Have your dad take about a roll or two of you, and send them all to me. You know Maggie I always said there is nothing better than pictures. Its so good to look back at some of the old days. It sometimes makes you feel young again. I miss you so much again honey. More now than before I come home. It really seems like years since I last saw you. How long is it now!

I am having all my O.D’s cleaned, and I’ll be all ready when the day comes. I think we change about Oct. 2nd. Don’t think you will see me in khakis for awhile. At least not until next season.

Its getting awfully late now honey so I’ll say goodnight for now. I love you will all my heart, wife.

All my love,

            Pres.

How do you like your new name? (envelopes) If you can call the baby Allen you can call me Roll.
