Sept. 29, 1944

My dearest wife,

But you can’t guess where I am? You’re wrong. I am back in the company area again. The supply officer and I came in this morning. I had to make up a Report of Survey for a damaged tire and make up a bunch of requisitions for some supplier that we needed. I had to get a command post tent for the Captain. The one I had for him was too large so he says, but who am I to argue with him?

Last night was one of the most miserable nights I ever spent. It was raining all night and I tried to sleep in the cab of the truck after I finished writing to you, and it was really tough trying to sleep. I believe I only slept about two or three hours. It hasn’t been raining most of the day, now, tonight it started to drizzle again. I was in camp here all day and I still don’t have a tent up and I guess I will have to go back in the cab again from the looks of things. If it does much more raining we will never be able to leave our bivouac area because of the mud.

I never realized I had written so much to you last night. I just keep on and on and when I took the paper out of my book I was really surprised to find I had written six pages, but I don’t think I said very much that meant anything. If I didn’t tell you I love you I am sorry. I do love you Maggie, again and again. I miss you like I never did before. I love you so. I just can’t seem to tell you enough times. You are all mind and always will be, and please remember this to your dying day because I mean it like I never meant anything before. You do know I love you don’t you? Tell me please?

Tomorrow is payday again and I happen to have a few dollars saved. I expect to give it to you if I get to see you in October. If I don’t get to see you I’ll send you a money order. How’s your bank account? It shouldn’t take us very long to have that doctor’s bill paid. If we stick together we can do it by the time you have the baby.

Did you ever make up your mind about you anniversary present? I am not going to buy you anything. I’ll give you money and you can get what you want. Is that alright with you? Tell me you love me.

Well honey they just come back for me so I guess I will have to sign off again.

I hope I have a chance to write to you tomorrow night. If I don’t write you will know the reason. Goodnite my beautiful little wife—I love you.

                                                            All my love,

                                                              Preston
