Dearest Maggie:

Well here I am again down in Tennessee for a couple more weeks of maneuvers. I wanted to write to you last night but I just didn’t have time. I had to drive my own truck again as my driver stayed behind. We left Sat. morning about 7AM and didn’t get down here until about 7: P.M. It was about 150 miles and it was one of the worst convoys I was ever in. Every couple miles we had to stop and it was like that all the way down. All we had for dinner was a couple of sandwiches and I couldn’t eat them. We had our supper at 9:30 P.M. – pork chops; and they were very tasty.

It finally cleared up this morning. It didn’t rain yesterday, but it was very cloudy all day. It was a beautiful day down here today and so warm, almost like summer. It made me kinda lonesome for you. The moon was out last night and I thought of you too.

Our Lt. came in last night and said you called me. I have been trying ever since to get in to call you back I am worried. Is everything alright? We are outside of Gallitin, Tenn. and it is off limits for us and there is no other place I can go at the present. It must have been something important or you wouldn’t have called. Will you write and tell me all about it? I haven’t been the same ever since I learned you called. It may have been that you went to the hospital, or maybe something else.

Maybe your dream will come true very soon now, Maggie.

You never told me you had a cold. Are you keeping secrets from me?

So its Indianapolis? Well that’s where we will meet. If we get back in time it may still be in October. I don’t know when I’ll get to see you if we stay out here for a long time.

Glad to hear you are all fine at home. I am alright I guess.

How is your cute little boy coming along? I’ll bet he gets better every day. Will you give him a big kiss for me.

We hadn’t had any mail for two days. Finally the third day today it came though. I had one from you that morning and one from “mom” and another from you this afternoon. Its awful when no mail comes though for a day or more. Our address is still the same. The 20th picked it up for me. I never told you I love you yet did I. well I do love you honey, now and forever.

                                                                                    Love,

                                                                                        Preston

P.S.

You won’t be getting any “Yanks” for a couple weeks now. Continue when I get back.
