My dearest wife:
I
had my day off today, so I went to town for awhile this afternoon. While I was
in town I saw a show, “Hail the conquering Hero”, and I didn’t think it was too
bad. I walked around town for awhile and there isn’t much to see. I bought
Mother a small bottle of perfume I thought maybe she would get a big kick out
of it. I also picked up a few post cards, hand painted or something of a French
village, and I think they are awfully cute. If I can find a big enough envelope
I’ll send them to you, otherwise they may be ruined by the time you get them.
I
mailed a package to you today. I hope you get it soon and hope you will like
it. When you get it, tell me if everything was alright. I packed it pretty good
so I don’t think it will break.
I
don’t think the doctor bill, and hospital bill was so bad. I really thought it
would come around $150 maybe more. I am glad to hear you are depositing in our
bank account again. I think it we keep up our good work we should have a nice
little savings by the time I come home. Are you sure you can get along alright
with what you have left after you pay your board and insurance? Now that I did
just about all the shopping I’m going to do, I should be able to save more too,
which you can deposit. Every time I see something nice in town I want to buy it
for you. I still like to buy things for you, but I think I’ll have to stage-
the prices are awful and I think we can get more benefit out of the money,
Have
you seen any good shows lately? I saw about three since I am over here.
I
guess I told you mail is coming through good, so you don’t have to worry
anymore about that.
Allen
looks good on those pictures, He sure is growing. I don’t think I’d know him if
I see him again. He seems to be growing like a weed. He should be a big help to
you some day, only don’t let him boss you. I think I’ll get him a little dog
when I get home and settled for a while.
You
know me- I don’t like to talk about my work, the less I hear about the army the
better. It still is kind of a job over here though. Every time you go out for
something the usually don’t have it, and you have to go to a few places before
you finally find it. They say everything is overseas, but I fail to see it. Yes
I still have laundry to worry about, only now it is a little worse, now I have
to sort out each mans clothes when it comes back. The company
is still all together, and are kept quite busy, although we are not
doing the job we were set up for. You know darn well I love you Maggie. I’d
give anything to be with you- not only now but for keeps. My memories of you
and I, of our old times keep me going. I get a thrill every time I think back-
of Toledo, Port Clinton and points west. I do love you.
I
have a new helper now again and he has a camera, so we are going to take a few
pictures someday soon, then I’ll send them.
Well,
I guess this is about all for tonight- Goodnight.
All my Love,
Pres.
