Dear Mom and Dad,

Don’t know whether you have been notified yet or not yet, but want to drop a short line to ease your minds. Guess you didn’t keep your fingers crossed or I zigged when I should have zagged. Anyway the little yellow devils got me yesterday. Nothing to worry about however. Just a piece of shrapnel through the left elbow which will lay me up for a few weeks. Then I’ll be good as new. Going to be evacuated soon.

Don’t worry because I’m really all right. Will write more as soon as I feel better.
