Asheville, N.C.

Hello Mary-

We left the college and checked into the George Vanderbilt hotel.  The room I have is on the sixth floor, number 620.  The fellow that came with was put in 616.

There was a fellow in my room [who] has been processed, and the other day he shipped out.  He got a break and was stationed within [a] 2 hour ride to his home in New Jersey.

Not everybody gets luck like that; some go to the west coast or way down south.  All the men here the last few days start sweating it out.

Well I have the room all to myself now ‘till some more returnees arrive.  This is a nice room and I have a swell view of the city.  There are two twin beds with inner spring mattress, a phone writing desk and a built in tub; some rooms have showers.

It really is comfortable here with bell hop and maid service.  There’s a large dining room on the first floor where they serve us meals three times a day.  All the work is done by curlians except for a few that are assigned here.

I understand I go through the same process here as in Texas.  I have an appointment coming up tomorrow, so until then, take it easy - so long.
