Dear Joy & all:
Well, today is
Decoration Day, but not in the Navy. I
have been over to the Naval Hospital at Grasse Ile since yesterday noon, and
just got back this P.M. and am back at school again. They took a bunch of x-rays of my knee, and, found a torn cartilage
and I am going to get treatments for it at the morning and evening sick
call. They made an elastic thing for me
to wear on it during the day and I get Diathermy and heat treatment and massage
twice a day for a month. That way I can
go on and finish school here and the big shot at the hospital thinks that it
will be O.K. then. He don’t know how
long it has been that way tho. I don’t
want them to know that I had trouble with it before I came in here.
I went to a Navy party Sunday night and had a
pretty good time. There were a lot of
Navy there from all over this part of the country and free drinks and
eats. I heard today over at Grasse Ile
that our company would go West from here, and, if we do, I should get at least
3 days at home on the way, but, not over 5 days.
We are
going to start wearing our whites Friday of this week and after that about all
I will be doing is washing white clothes, so if you don’t get any letters after
that you will know the reason why.
Tell
Margaret that I will write sometime, but I just don’t have time except on
liberty days and don’t want to take time then, but she can write anyhow and I
will sometime. I guess I had better get
back to work and try to catch up on some of it, so I will close for now.
Love,
Tom
