Dear Mom and Pop

Well the war is peacefully over so you don’t have to worry a lot about me because I’ll be pretty safe.

I’ve been working pretty hard and will be all this week. Our company has chow hall duty this week and I’m working in the spud locks. Boy that is really something. I don’t get up at 3:30 in the morning and don’t get done work till about 6:00 or 6:30. That is pretty long day.

I’m not going to send the pictures home so I’ll give them to Pop.

You probably won’t get the pass until Saturday, so don’t worry if you don’t get it right away. As I said before Pop can come down to Perryville by train and then take a taxi from Perryville to the main gate, and I’ll be down there to meet him.

Boy you should hear the racket down here. Truman just announced that the war is over. I’m sure glad.

Well I’ll have to close now.

                                                            All my love, Alfred
