Dear Mom and Pap:

Well I finally got a chance to write a letter. I’m not on duty so I think I’ll write some letters and then hit the sack.

I got a card from Aunt Sallie today and she said Bill’s news is pretty short. The way the papers read out here, all they talk about is trouble with Russia.

If we don’t watch out we could get into another war. I hope not. A German that works in the personal office told a buddy of mine that they are going to hold the Reserves. I’m glad I joined up with the Regular now.

I haven’t heard from Don yet but I think he is either in Germany or else on his way. Well 10 more weeks till school is over and then I don’t know where. The last class all went to sea. I wouldn’t mind going to sea if it is the Atlantic Fleet, because there is more of a chance to get home.

Next weekend I get a whole weekend liberty. I think I’ll go up to Hollywood just to see if it’s what they say it is.

I went to church this Sunday, and it just makes you feel as if you’re in a civilized church. The chapel out here seems to have a little more form to it than in Bambridge. That makes it seems more like you were going to church outside. This Sunday I think I’ll go to church in San Diego. They have about 4 or 5 Lutheran churches out here. Well I guess I will close now.

(All my love)

Alfred
