Dear Mom and Pop:

Well here it is, Saturday afternoon. I’m on duty so I can’t go on liberty. I’m just sitting around taking it slow. We just had mail here, but no mail for me.

Well we’re half-through school. The first half went by pretty fast, and I hope the second half goes by just as fast.

When I said I hope I get Seamen 1/c, it means that I’ll just go up another notch. I won’t be able to make seamen 3/c until at least 4 months after I make 5 1/c. I have a pretty good chance of making S 1/c, but there are some guys in here a lot smarter than I am. We just had a Bureau of Personal list today. I did pretty good in that. Tomorrow I’m going to church and take communion. I read in the Temple cedars that Eugene Asbarne is in the air Corps. Gosh, before you know it they’ll have all the group in the army. I’m sure glad that I joined the Navy. I’m just hoping that when school is finished I get put in the Atlantic Fleet, because that would mean I could get home once in a while. Well Mom and Pop, I guess I’ll close these few lines.

All my love,

Alfred
