Dear Mom and Pop:

I received your letter yesterday and came over to the canteen tonight to answer it. I’m sorry to hear about Pop, and I hope he soon gets over his cold.

I’m still doing fairly well, but I still have to pick up on my typing. You’ll have to excuse this typewriting, because this typewriter isn’t so hot.

Well we only have about five more weeks to go and then I hope I get sent back to the East coast. I doubt if I’ll get there though. I think I told you in my last letter, that I was going to try for submarines. That would mean the East cost for a little bit any way.

The weather the last few days has been pretty changeable. One minute it’s hot and the next minute it’s raining.

I had liberty today, but I didn’t go out because I wanted to save my money for next weekend as I have a 36 hour liberty. A buddy of mine and I plan to fly up to Los Angeles, but I think it might be hard on the pocket book, so I guess we’ll wind up taking the bus. I’m the only one who didn’t go on liberty today but I think I’ll have a better time than the rest of them, by just taking in movies on base.

Well Mom I guess I’ll close these few lines and then probably I’ll drop a few lines to Betty Sassaman I mean Betty West. Take care of yourself and Pop now, I don’t want you to be all in bed when I come home. (Yak Yak).

All my love
