Dear Mom and Pop:

Just a few lines to let you know how I’m getting along.

They changed my working hours this past week. So now I work from 1:00 in the afternoon till whenever I’m done. Sometimes its 9:00 at night and sometimes its 2:00 in the morning. They tell me Friday night is the busiest night of all, so this means I won’t be home till very late Friday night or early Saturday morning. One consolation is that I don’t have to be back till 1:00 Monday afternoon and I won’t have to be leaving Sunday night. I’ll be home for sure this weekend though. Another thing that is attached to this job is that I have to stand by every other weekend, which makes it impossible for me to come home too much.

I get off standing watch in the barracks anyway, which is a good thing. This past weekend I had a whole weekend watch which you already know. Of all the watches I had to stand is had to be S.P. duty. It wasn’t so bad though, just lonely. I had to check all the buses coming over to the Quarters, and get the bus driver’s name and number. They’ll do anything to keep you out of the sack.

Need I suppose I’ll have to close these few lines for now, and get to work. See you this weekend.

                        All my love,

                                    Alfred
