Dear
Hon:
Good
evening sweetheart. How is my sweetest husband in the world today? Just got back from my egg route. I delivered eggs to my
mothers, Kitty’s and her mothers. The egg business if very
good only there is no money in it for me. By doing so I gathered quite a
bit of news so that was worthwhile. The first thing I found out was that my
sister Julia is a mother of a 9lb. baby boy. Stella claims that they were all
disappointed as they hoped for a girl. It is too bad as that makes 4 boys so
far. I’m sure that Charley is proud because it is a boy. Sunday was the
day for the blessed event. I sent her a card tonight and I will also try to
visit her while she is in [the] hospital.
Kitty
heard from her brother Joe today. He is back in the

Pete
C. was visiting at Kitty’s when I stopped by. He is a nice fellow. We had
a nice chat about you boys especially you + Bus. I,
also asked Kitty to dig up that snapshot I gave her of you in uniform, Pete was
very glad to see it. He told me to tell you that he may meet you in Claiborne
soon. His brother John is mixed up with a little Irish girl in
Winky L. is not home yet, he may
not get home at all as his clothes were sent home to his wife which means that
he is going across. She is rather blue these days and I don’t blame her.
I would be too. She is coming with Kitty Thurs. to pay Mary + I a visit. She is a good sport and I like her.
Darling,
I received 5 letters from you in 2 days and a paper besides. You are a dear to
use up your spare moments in writing to me. I shall never forget how much
happiness you brought me while you were away. Darling, you are so in love, that is all you write about. It makes me very happy as
you were never so free in declaring your love for me before.
3.
Its
fun to receive love letters after almost 9 yrs. of married life. Sweetheart,
life is funny isn’t it? You never thought for one second that after
8½ yrs. you would start writing love letters to your wife. Must be dear, that you + I just woke up to the idea that we are in
love. It took a war to bring us to. Now, as you write that’s how
my feelings are for you dear. I love you more + more each day and I can say it
with all sincerity and much feeling. I’d never thought that there could
be so much love between two people, but here it is and no imagination either.
I
received the Claiborne news today and scouted through every sheet of the paper
to see if your picture was there but no luck Darling. You did write that your
picture was taken in school and would be in the paper so I imagined it would
have been in this issue. As yet I didn’t receive the York Magazine that
must be on its way.
By
every indication you are ready to be moved. With all my heart darling I hope its not to a P.O.E. that is about the only place that the
boys are being moved to now. It better be
4
somewhere in this country. It might better be in this
country as it is much healthier here.
In today’s letter you met up with the S. boy.
It’s a small world isn’t it. I told Mrs. H. about your meeting
while she was here using the phone. She was very pleased and spoke of him
highly.
I
shall thank Mildred +Ray the first chance I get dear for sending you a box of
candy. It was very sporting of them.
My
coal arrived today as promised. It looks like a good batch. I hope so.
Darling,
you mentioned my being prepared in case you called me in short notice.
Sweetheart if you called I would do everything in my power to get to you. Let
us hope that this will be soon.
Darling,
I must put down my pen as it is getting rather late and my eyes are about half
open. I must get washed up for the night. Goodnite
Sweetheart darling and don’t forget that I also love you very, very much.
I just live for the day that you are home again.
“Godbless You.” Your Loving Wife,
