Dec. 4-1945
Dear Mom,
I can’t imagine how long it has been since I heard from you. But, I imagine you have been patiently waiting for some of my November Mail. Barbie says my November 1st letter finally reached her on the 23rd, as that made over 2 (two) weeks without hearing from me. Everybody started kidding her about how I must be coming home, and she hardly knew what to think. I assured her that there was absolutely no chance of my making it until a couple more months. But, everyone else has been coming home, and when she didn’t get mail-well I guess you can’t blame her for dreaming. I hope I’ll make it for my 22nd birthday. Perhaps- with reasonable luck I could make it some time in February.
Say, how many times did Paul manage to get home? In Barbie’s letter of the 21st, she says she saw home that night. Was he there for Thanksgiving? She said if I am three or four inches taller than Paul, I must be a pretty tall guy. I don’t know, maybe Paul has grown a little since I left. I imagine a lot of things have changed since I left. It’ll seem like an altogether different world.
Well, I thought I would write just to let you know that I’m thinking of you all and hope I’ll hear from you soon. Please have a Merry Christmas. Everything is coming along as expected over here. I’m still waiting for the day when I’ll return to all of you.
Please give my love to everybody.
Your loving son,
Chuck
