Still over here
Hello Darling,
Well I think you rate a couple times tonight. I hit the jackpot today at mail call. I got 6 letters from you, one from your mother, and one each from Ila and pop. Also a magazine from Republic Steel. The latest letter was dated the 31st [of] July and your air mail letter took as long as the one your mother sent with a 3 cent stamp. Some service. I got several with my new address on them.
We have some kind of inspection here tomorrow. I think some jerk General is coming. Probably end up and no one show up.
Say don’t get too excited about my coming home. At least not for a while anyway. There isn’t anything certain in the Army. All I told you was I may be home in September. Well the way things look now we may not get home for several months.
Boy, Kate must be having a heck of a time. Maybe if Junior gets back he can straighten things out. I hope so.
I wish I could get back there. You and I could have a swell time. Don’t worry about me sneaking on you. I’ll probably get stuck in two or three camps in the States before I get home. It’s a heck of a lot easier to get over here than it is to get back. Especially in this kind of an outfit. You said that King’s outfit was going to be declared excess. At one time they were one of the first outfits going to be redeployed to the Pacific. Who knows what’s going to happen next. I’m sure I don’t.
I can’t start making any plans about where you could meet me because I don’t know where I’ll get my furlough from. All we can do about that is wait and see what develops.
Boy you must be more bashful or you just think you are. When you see me you will forget all about that. Don’t ask me what I’ll do because anything could happen. I may try and pass out like I did back in Dr. So and So’s office. Remember that day? Those were the good old days.
Say you know what day today is, don’t you? If you don’t, write and ask me some time.
I’ll have to stop and read a couple more letters. All the news on the
radio is about the Atomic Bomb. I’m sitting here listening to WLWL
Don’t you worry about being sick when I’m home because it won’t be anything new. I wouldn’t care if you were because I love you so darned much. All we can do is let Nature take care of that.
I sent you a couple of pictures last night. One was of the old Chevrolet truck we had. It doesn’t look much like a car or truck but you have to blame the Krauts for that. The others were of some of the fellows. In the group picture I hadn’t had time to comb my hair. I had about an hour to complete packing after that was taken.
Marge you know how much I love you and always will. I miss you more and more every long day I’m away from you. Don’t worry about me. I’ll send you all the love of a real lonesome guy.
All my Love,
Ralph
