Dear Sisters,
How you all doing by this here time I wonder. Mary is fine but me I [have a] rather bad cold. I went on sick call Monday morning and got my head sprayed out good and I mean good and some cough syrup. I didn’t feel so good last night so I went to bed instead of writing a letter. I was much better today I must say.
Mary got quite a few cards for her birthday. It was rather quiet for her. On Sunday she had spaghetti and we asked the two fellows in from the camp. It was rather nice and the fellows enjoyed it a lot.
This school I am going to is a waste of time if you ask me. The guys that are teaching it don’t know anymore than we do for they aren’t up to snuff in a lot of things and as far as the new ship goes, the only thing that we can find out so far is that to prevent icing of the carburetor by using the heat of exhaust so we could of found that out for ourselves.
I took that profile exam the other day and I think the guy was a little nutty himself. He’s one of those guys who don’t examine, only talk to you. Well if you ask one it is a big laugh.
I have a letter from Kathryn and from Erma to answer.
Mary got a birthday card from each of you on her birthday.
I put the stamp in the letter for you Kathryn.
Erma we received our S.S. candy today. What I want to now is where in the hell did they get those boxes. Must have had them since the last war.
Bay K. your schoolroom surely was cold. They should look into that, for it isn’t good for anyone to sit in a room that’s cold.
We still have our Xmas tree up also. I have it in water and the darn thing is sprouting in the house. It had little buds on it; they grew and finally burst so what do you think of that.
Erma why is it you write half a letter in ink and the other half in pencil if I may ask.
You surely are having cold weather from what they say, gosh and lots of snow.
My furlough for February doesn’t look so darn good. They went and cancelled the six-month deal. It must go 9 months on this darn field so the situation doesn’t look very good. Of course I can try for it and I can get it O. K. out of our department, but the darn Headquarters who won’t approve it I am afraid. So you see what the situation is.
Well I guess I’ll sign off for now and will try and write to you soon again.
Hope you are all O.K.
So long,
Love John
