Dear Sisters:
We had a whooper of a blizzard on Monday. Boy it surely snowed about 6 inches here. I don’t know how much they got in the mountains but it must have been plenty. This morning it was –4o [Fahrenheit] when I went to the field it really was very cold but it warmed up & some of it melted today.
Yesterday, I had to go down to the hospital at the field. I couldn’t figure it out until I got there then they took a specimen of my urine & I was told I was just qualified for overseas. It really was a true army physical a look & that is all.
I don’t [k]now what it means but I guess I’ll find out in time. I rather hope I am left here until after Christmas, but who can tell.
There is a rumor that they are putting most of the fellows into an infantry outfit the way I understand it all those that haven’t been sent through a tech school I hope that is the way for I don’t want to get into an infantry outfit if I must go over I’d much rather go in the Air Corp. It surely is nerve racking this waiting & wondering.
We are very busy at the field it seems that a ship crashed on Sat. Night it was one we were to git Monday morning but we now get it now.
I have a letter from Kathryn & Irma so I’ll answer. You seem to be having rather bad weather back. So Mrs. Schaffer thought her loud mouth was going to dodge the draft forever. To bad about Bird K. but that is how the army does, makes a [w]reck of a man & then dump him out. Your society O.S.E.A. should get that bill passed or they will be trying some funny stuff one of these days.
So Irma the gov’t is wrong about the under nourished kids I guess they get enough to eat but not the right things.
I like that song of Eddie C. it surely is true but why don’t they first put the bug on the defense worker & have them get the material out to end this [edited for content] thing in a hurry, too many strikes & stuff & too many greedy people who don’t care whose neck gets it, just so they get big money. Enough said.
I just heard Fibber McGee & now Bob Hope came on. Write soon.
(Mary had a bunch of red stamps given [to] her so her[e] is two for steak and butter.)
So long
Love
John
