Dear Sisters:

I got home early tonight so I’ll try and catch up on my conference a little.  We have been very busy at work I must say.  Now we must work on Sunday and have Monday off also we get paid on Sunday.  They surely have no respect for the Sabbath.  They are still shipping men out one after another to the infantry and are putting untrained Aviation Students to take their place, dumb kids that have no initiative to do anything but find ways to get out of work.  It seems to me that they are asking for trouble and will get in the papers about a lot of pilots getting killed in crashes.  You can say, well another guy that got it because a dumb bugger didn’t now what he was doing.  These kids have no training of any kind and look like they should be put in the infantry and not have any laying around when the infantry needs them.

Have here two letters from Kathryn and one from Irma.  I’ll answer them now.

I got my Coronet yesterday and I think it is grand.  It surely has some good reading in it.  Also the Blue and White was in one of the letters.  You surely are tough giving a test the night before the holidays.

That Women’s Club Party didn’t seem too hot to me, but the meal sounds pretty good.

You surely must be having terrible weather back home.  We really are having good weather and you don’t need an overcoat as yet.

Irma you would make the kids wash their ears and end up washing ones yourself.  Boy 10 below sounds plenty cold to me.

Irma, Mary wants you to ask that board how long she is going to stay here.

It was nice Uncle Elmer was up also that Uncle Clarence came to see you.

You surely got very nice gifts.  I must say Irma you should be a sweet smelling lady.

I bet Joan was all aflutter and had a big time of it.  Kathryn you are supposed to cut the turkey and not your hand.  I hope it isn’t too bad.  Your dinner surely sounded good.  Wish I could of help put it away.

Stewart surely got into a good thing, if you ask me also I think he is lucky to be still in this country.

I guess the travel was terrible all over.  It surely was too bad about Sonny, U., but the damn civilians don’t give a damn for the G.I.  He isn’t in long enough or he would have pushed his way into the bus and gotten home.  My idea is leave the civilians wait. They stay on the side and don’t get shot at.

How did Butch P. do at the Xmas thing at Church?

You surely got nice things for Xmas Kathryn and like Irma you should leave your scent as you go by.

I agree with you that those were too many miles between us.  I wonder how many miles it will be next year at this time?  I hate to think of that, but unless our enemies fall in a hurry I won’t be home.   I hate to think of it at all.

Some of those earring guys are American, others [Spanish], and some of them are defended because they worked at the base.  I wish they [would] start up again for if they do the country will be rid of those bums.

I don’t think that it was planned to fall back in Europe.  We were pushed back and got hell going back, but it looks a lot better now.

I’ll sign off for now, hope you are all well, we are.  So Long,

                                                                                    Love,

                                                                                    John
