June 20, 1944
Dear Mom,
You must not have received my letter telling you that I have a leave coming up in August as you mentioned you wished I could get one in your last letter. I am going to try to get a plane, and if I can’t I am not going to try to come home. Never again will come that distance by train. I didn’t even enjoy being home I was so fagged out.
I still
plan to get a car when I get there, the way I see it, I will/won’t be in this country
‘til the war is over, and I want to have a few of the things I would have had
if the war had not come along at all. A car is definitely one of those things,
I have walked until I am fed up with it completely. Tell Pap to be on the
look-out for a 1940 1941 or 42 model Ford, Chevy or
Cars are expensive but I stay broke anyway and I may as well have something to show for my money. It will be a good way to save a little and they are putting a ceiling price on them come July so I should be able to get one for a reasonably fair price. Tell Pap to try to find me a really fine car, new as he can, a convertible will be fine as to color, red if he can find it. That is a maroon. I am serious about this Mom so please have Pap work on it for me. I need it very badly honest.

a car out here but they rob you and I think the prices in

You letter
came today with the ads in it. The cars in
No mom, I can’t think of anything I want, I have written Uncle Ben and also sent him a picture, I got Aunt Lillian’s candy but haven’t written her as yet but I will soon.
