Dear Mom,

You must not have received my letter telling you that I have a leave coming up in August as you mentioned you wished I could get one in your last letter. I am going to try to get a plane, and if I can’t I am not going to try to come home. Never again will come that distance by train. I didn’t even enjoy being home I was so fagged out.

I still plan to get a car when I get there, the way I see it, I will/won’t be in this country ‘til the war is over, and I want to have a few of the things I would have had if the war had not come along at all. A car is definitely one of those things, I have walked until I am fed up with it completely. Tell Pap to be on the look-out for a 1940 1941 or 42 model Ford, Chevy or Plymouth. In good condition and a radio, must have a radio in it. I am going to try to touch Aunt Cara for the down payment.

Cars are expensive but I stay broke anyway and I may as well have something to show for my money. It will be a good way to save a little and they are putting a ceiling price on them come July so I should be able to get one for a reasonably fair price. Tell Pap to try to find me a really fine car, new as he can, a convertible will be fine as to color, red if he can find it. That is a maroon. I am serious about this Mom so please have Pap work on it for me. I need it very badly honest.

I would get a car out here but they rob you and I think the prices in Atlanta will be much better.

Say Mom, how did you know Bee had gone to Boston, I only told you she was going not that she had gone. Did she write you or something? I become more and more convinced as the days go by that she’s the girl for me. I’ve met lots of them but they can’t measure up to her in any way.

I am going to have to spend a few days of my leave in Macon improving relations sorta. She writes that she has big things planned for us to do. Should be fun.

Monday

You letter came today with the ads in it. The cars in Atlanta are much cheaper and they seem to have a much bigger selection too. I will definitely have to have one, I have walked long enough and Mom, the way things look now, I will be here another year. I only have 500 hrs flying time and you have to have a thousand before they even consider sending you out of here. If I should go overseas I will just sell the car or ship it home or something.

No mom, I can’t think of anything I want, I have written Uncle Ben and also sent him a picture, I got Aunt Lillian’s candy but haven’t written her as yet but I will soon.

I’ll close now. So long for awhile.

                                                Love to all,

                                                            Roy
