Sunday Nite
January 17, 1943
Hello Walt,
Sorry not to have answered your letters sooner, however, I have been so busy-first with Christmas and all that and then there is always school and volunteer work and now the Canteen. So I hardly have a minute to myself. And I really am having a wonderful time–never a dull moment! So you see I just must neglect my correspondence. My time just isn’t my own, at least very little of it.
Last Wednesday was Mother’s birthday and we had a grand time. I was to meet her after work for dinner and a show and to surprise her I sent her flowers in the afternoon before she came down and she was so thrilled. She really enjoyed that day. She is feeling fine.
Received a nice letter from your Mother thanking me for my Christmas gift. I was very happy to hear from her. She is indeed taking this was all very well although she is not one to make known her feelings even though her heart is breaking. She is really swell people.
I had a wonderful Christmas and New years. By the way I started a letter on New Years day to you, but never had time to finish; consequently you never received it.
As you’ve mentioned you’d like to see me. Well do you think you can afford it now? It is wonderful for you that you have your week-ends to yourself.
You
haven’t told me much about where you are located, etc, however, I assume you
must be near
Just
what will be your commission when you are finished at
Are you permitted to go very far from the post when you have week-ends off?
It is quite late so I’d better think of closing. I just got home after seeing Henry Busse at the Palace. The picture was “Thunder Bird.” I’m sure you’d like it very much. All about Thunder Bird field where they train air cadets.
Hope this letter finds you feeling swell. Don’t study too hard. Bye now Walt, and be good.
Ever,
Mae
Nite.
