Hello Inez and Frank:
Greetings
from the U.S.
Army!! Have been out here since the 22nd of December, and believe me
like it a lot. Am getting a very extensive refresher course prior to attending
‘Officer’s Candadate
School, something I am
looking forward to very much. Everything here is just swell, folks, this post
has everything to offer. One thing not so good is this damned cold weather and
snow. The wind coming in from the lake goes right thru you. However, you get it
too!!
Well how is
everything with the Jakelsky’s? Traveled by Painsville on the way out and it
certainly brought back pleasant memories. And then we stopped at Cleveland very early in
the morning and it naturally reminded me of that swell time we all had
together. Remember?? And naturally – Mae. Do you ever see her Inez? I have
written to her and expressed the fact that I would like to see her some weekend
but I guess she has some other interest now. Unfortunately, I had to cancel our
plans and hoped she would understand about the service and how I feel about any
plans at this time. She apparently didn’t like it. I gave up everything to be a
part of this man’s army and she couldn’t read between the lines. Since being
here I have written to her and tried to make her understand and hoped we could
continue our friendship. After all the war isn’t going to last forever. The
reply I received didn’t make sense and she hasn’t written since. Inez, if she
is going with someone steady, will you please tell me. I have asked her to be honest
with me because I have always liked her and consider her happiness before mine.
She apparently still wears the ring and I would like to know what the story is
– for good or for worse.
Love,
Walt
