Friday Night
July 2, 1943
My dearest Hal,
I have now
gotten three boxes from you and I can hardly believe my own luck. I see that they were mailed in February so I
see what a very long time it takes them to come. Maybe some of these days I will hear that you
have gotten a package from me. I
certainly hope so. All of the things in
this last box were beautiful. I am so
glad the gazelle horns came through without a scratch. I like especially the carved box. I have always wanted one but this one is much
handsomer than I dared to hope for. You
are mighty sweet to send me all these lovely things and I know how much you
hate to tie up packages so I really can appreciate the effort you have to make
in sending them. So far every thing has
come through in fine shape, nothing has been broken.
Saturday:
I didn’t
get to finish this last night because I started it and then had to stop and
read Sam his bed time story and I went to sleep when he did so I still have to
finish it.
I went to
town today to get Peggy and take daddy over on business. He has sold the orchard. We could not get anyone who would look after
it. Daddy got a very good price for it
though I hated to see him sell it. I
guess we will finally get to the place when we won’t have much left. I am determined to hold on to what we have
left if it is possible. She wouldn’t
starve as long as we can hold on to a little dirt to dig in.
I saw Sara
in town. She was on her way down to W night’s
Gift Shop where she is working in the afternoons. She said “Nana” would be coming home in about
a month and would stay with Mrs. Hartman.
I hope she will like it there and think it is a very good idea.
