Dearest Hal,

We are having some extremely hot dry weather here now. I suppose by now hot weather is hardly new to you. I did manage to go to church but it was pretty bad. Tonight we are to begin our services and they will last all week. Wonder why they always choose the hottest week of the whole summer?

Mother has an infected cist on her neck. I took her to town yesterday and Dr. Forst lanced it for her. She has been in bed today with a hot towel and a hot water bottle on it. You can imagine just how miserable she feels.

I saw Annie Lou Crawford in town yesterday. Bill has a job in Newport News. Allie Trase was called home by the illness and death of her father in June. She has not come back yet. “The girls” are running the form and everything is just too dreadful as you can imagine

Another of Billy’s girl announced her engagement today. Kitty Halt is marrying Nelson Dazier. Frances Halt married at a Dodd bay several months ago. Billy said when he was here that every girl he knew had just become engaged to someone else. He didn’t seem very unhappy over it.

Salesmen will not be able to get any more gas than anyone else. Wonder what Harry will do? Sara said some time ago that they might have to move to Winchester again or somewhere more convenient to Harry’s work. We miss you, darling. Do write soon.

All my love,
