My dearest Hal,

I miss you more everyday. Some how I thought it might get better but so far every thing I start to do just reminds me that I’ll have to do it alone. There isn’t anyone who could ever take your place. So I’ll just have to wait until you come home so we can be together again.

I had a letter from “Pinky” last week and she said Harry was leaving for his foreign service. I wish he could have stayed here until after their baby comes. That will be in October. She will stay on in Lillington with Anne until after that. She wants to go to the doctor at Fort Bragg.

I heard from “Nana” she said she was right much better now. I hope she will soon be well. She sent back some letters of yours. I had let her have to read. I was so glad to have them back. I read your letters over and over and now I know most of them from memory. If we could only hear from each other regularly it would mean so very much to me.

Benard M Laurine was operated on for appendicitis in Richmond last Friday. He seemed to stand the operation fairly well though he isn’t so young anymore and he has quite a serious heart condition. The operation was an emergency one and was quite a shock to us, as we didn’t know he had been having any trouble. I hope you will take the very best care of yourself. That means everything to me.

All my love,
