Dearest Hal,
Here we are having fall in August. The nights are so chilly we have to have two blankets and Sam wears a sweater everyday until lunchtime. Sam and I have both been having a terrible time with hay fever lately. I think we well both have to take some shots if it doesn’t improve before long.
Bob left for Camp Lee Monday. He will only be there a few days before he is transferred to a permanent post. He tried to enlist in the navy but his eyes would not pass the test. He is wearing glasses now so I hope they will improve.
Peggy is still working for Mr. Burnette. She got a raise the first of August. Several of her friends are joining the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps but I hope Peggy won’t decide to enlist. I don’t think she is strong enough for that life.
Sam and I are busy painting some yard chairs. I am painting them and Sam is wiping off as much as he can on his clothes, hands, etc.
By the way did the magazines ever start coming? How about the boxes of cigars? I wish you would write if you want anything else. I have looked and looked for your pipes but I can’t find any. We miss you, darling. Write us soon.
All my love,
