My dearest Hal,

I do wish I could get a letter and find out how you are. I have been so worried about you having bails and feeling so badly. Sam and I are still very uncomfortable and I suppose we will be until the season for ragweed is over.

Peggy had a holiday today because of Labor Day. She took Mother to town and Dr. Forst operated on her neck and removed an infected sac that has been giving her a great deal of trouble all summer. She is resting very comfortably and we do hope the operation is successful. Of course, the thing may grow back. We will not know if this growth is malignant until we hear from the tests Dr. Forst is having made. Dr. Forst was encouraging but we worry even so.

As soon as Mother is well Sam and I will go to Richmond to stay with Elizabeth and have our hay fever treated. I do hope that you will feel that this what we should do. If you were here I know you would agree that something must be done for Sam, so I am going ahead do what I think is best.

All my love,
