My own dearest Hal,

I do hope I will be able to mail this after I get it written. We have had very heavy rains since Monday and I’m afraid they are not over. It has stopped raining for the present and we are glad to see the water is going down some now. The meadows are flooded of course. No trains have run since early yesterday morning and so of course we can get no mail. They did send us the paper by truck today and we know a little of what is going on. The damage in Waynesboro alone is estimated to be a million dollars. Dupont is suffering very heavy losses.

I planned to go to Charlottesville to see “Nana” Tuesday but had to postpone it because of the fog on the Mt. I will go next week as soon as all this rain clears up.

Do write me what your new work is if you can. I got the things you sent and the money orders and I bought bonds as you suggested.

Sam has some modeling clay and he wants me to make him and elephant like Dumbo. He always says if Daddy were here he would do it. I am a poor substitute.

All my love,
