Dearest Hal,

I’m so sorry our financial affairs are so unsatisfactory. I feel just as you do that I am not doing enough saving. I wanted to teach but both you and my family oppose that very much. Beginning the first of Dec I am going to keep an itemized account for you to see when you come home. I have not wanted your money but I wish I could be allowed to do the same thing so I could have my own money. I would be wonderful if I did something to help.

Sam was so thrilled to get your letter I hope you will write him often. Please don’t say anything more about his Daddy never coming home. He was terribly distressed. Of course we are all going to live together and be very, very happy. Has something gone wrong with your world? You seem to be very unhappy over something. The news has been so good lately we hope it means you will be coming home sooner than we believed possible. We love you very, very much. Please don’t be angry we are doing the best we know how. Sam and I have a scrapbook and we are putting things in it we hope to have in our home. We are both very much thrilled at the idea maybe we may have a home with you in it.

                                                All my love,
