Monday Nite,

My dearest Hal,

I can only write you a note as it is all ready late and I have to get up early to get to school. Today was a rainy day. [T]he first rain we have had for two months and things have just dried up. So many of my flowers died. I tried to water them for awhile but it didn’t seem to help. I guess I just couldn’t carry enough or maybe I’m lazy.

Today we had a magician at school to entertain the children. We knew he was coming so Daddy brought Sam up at dinnertime to get acquainted with school and go to the program. Sam was quite awed by school and sat as still as any thing. He enjoyed the program very much and it really was very good. I enjoyed it too.

I seem to be doing very well with teaching. Do you want me to stop? Any time you know any thing at all about coming home please let me know because I am living in hopes that you really are coming.

Louise McL., a friend of Peggy’s is spending the night with us. Poor girl, her brother was killed in Sicily and it was terrible for them. I feel so sorry for people who have to looselose their loved ones. It brings the war so close and I can’t help wondering how I could bear it if it happened to me. I pray that you are safe and happy and will soon be back home again.

                                                                                                All my love,
