My dearest Hal,
I have thought about you all day long and wished I could be with you so we might share this together.
I went in to Sara’s about nine and the services were held at eleven. Lyle Moffett conducted the services and it was one of the most beautiful I have ever heard, simple and impressive and so comforting. I know it would have helped you very much if you could have heard him.
Thomas was unable to come but the other sisters and brothers were there, Aunt Anna and Aunt Rhetta and Uncle Charlie, Andrew, & Estelline, Margaret & Andrew and probably others that I do not know. So many people all doing kind things and wanting to do more that one is touched and helped by the lovely flowers and expressions of sympathy.
Hal I hope you will understand that I thought it best for Daddy not to try to go to the service. We do not leave him alone so of course Mother couldn’t go either. Peggy came from the office and Mother and Daddy sent some flowers. Daddy doesn’t drive and they could not have gone as early as I had to go.
All my family and many of our neighbors and friends have asked me to express to you their deepest sympathy. All of your family asked to be remembered to you when I wrote again and Lyle M was particularly anxious to be remembered. He said he had your address from Sara and was writing to you and to Billy as soon as possible.
When we left Hebron and drove back to town Elizabeth expressed a desire to go in to La Grange Wilbur drove in and we met the Abbotts just leaving for town. They went back however and we were shown over the house. Emily A was so sweet and gracious about it. They have made many changes and both Emily and Mr. A expressed the hope that you would soon be home and I could bring you out to see them.
When we got back to town Cousin Fanny M and Mrs. R had fixed lunch for us and I stayed until after lunch and then came on home. Wilbur and Elizabeth left for Richmond about 2:30 taking Bits with them. He planned to go on to N.C. to spend the rest of his leave (about a week) with Polly.
Harry went up to Mrs. C’s and brought Harry N home as soon as we got back to the house so the folks could see him. He is a very cute little boy though of course he is not so sweet as our Sambo.
Last week when Charlie J plowed the other half of the garden he had some help as the enclosed pictures will show.
Darling, I do hope you are coming home soon. It would mean a great deal to be with you now.
All my love,
Page.
