June 20, 1944
My dearest Hal,
After
having two of the hottest days of the season today we are having one the
coolest. We had a very bad storm last
night with some hail. I guess maybe that
accounts for this sudden cold spell. The
storm did not do so very much damage. It
broke the tops out of two locust trees and broke right many limbs out of one of
the maples. It broke the window in my
room and blew stick right into the room.
Glass was all over the room in tiny fragments.
Today was
the day we had set to have a faculty meeting of all the

thankful that we only have three more days of
Darling, I
can hardly believe the wonderful luck that you may really be coming in
July. I have wanted so long to think
this awful waiting was over and I’m afraid to hope too much. I’ll be certain when I hold you in my arms and
not before. Let’s pray it will be
soon. I feel I can never ask for any thing
else if I can have you safely home again.
