Camp Shelby, Mississippi
November 14, 1944
Dear Dottie,
I won’t
have very much time to write tonight so I guess this short letter will have to
do. I guess it will have to be short anyway as I haven’t much to say.
Last
weekend I went to Meridian, Mississippi. It isn’t such a large city but it is
bigger than Hattiesburg.
The streets there are really cut up. They have blocks that are wedge shape. I
had a nice time. I had to take my friend to the hotel before eleven o’clock and
put him to bed. We started drinking and he wouldn’t stop so he got sick. I went
to a square dance and it was over just after I got there. I went to a small
café and had a nice steak before going to the hotel. I listened to Harry James
Band for awhile before I retired. Sunday afternoon we went to the movie, “Going
My Way,” with Bing Crosby. I thought it was very good. We had a hard time
getting on the bus to come back but we did manage to get seats. There were a
lot of soldiers that didn’t get on and they had to wait from seven thirty until
eleven thirty for the next bus. I’m glad I didn’t have to wait. What have you
been doing lately? Write and tell me about it.
Honey, I’d
better sign off before I write something I shouldn’t. Goodbye for now! Write
soon.
Lots
of Love,
Cliff
